In line with the government’s industry development policy, Taipei Power Co. (Taipower) on June 12 announced its plan to invest NT$400 billion (US$12.37 billion) in the sector of renewable energy over the next 15 years, Focus Taiwan has reported. Taipower indicated that it will dedicate more than 80 percent of the investment capital to the deployment of wind energy, in particular the offshore wind farms.
Green energy is one of the five key industries in President Tsai Ing-wen’s economic policy. In her inaugural speech, she also mentioned that the government will set up an office for energy and carbon-reduction within the Executive Yuan, and ‘regularly review goals for cutting greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the agreement negotiated at the COP21 meeting in Paris’.
