Energy production from renewable sources has continued to grow since 1990, according to the report ‘Key Renewables Trends’ released by the International Energy Agency (IEA). Among the sources, solar PV and wind power have posted significantly high growth rates at 46.2% and 24.3%, respectively.
The report also finds that renewables are now the second largest source of global electricity production, accounting for 22.3% of world generation in 2014. While hydro power remains the top one source contributing to the renewable electricity generation, ratio of electricity generated from other renewable sources has grown from 1.3% in 1990 to 6.0% in 2014.
